“Music students deserve a teacher committed to guiding, supporting and nurturing their learning and musical growth. I was lucky enough to have music teachers like this, and I am dedicated to being that kind of mentor for my students. I strive to walk with my students on their journey and help them discover that music is always playful, at times challenging and often transformative.”
Growing up in Calgary, Alberta, Makaila Quigley began classical voice training at age four and continues to study with UVic professor Anne Grimm. Over her 16 years of singing, she has trained with professionals from many genres of music, gaining appreciation and skills in musical theatre, classical, folk, and pop. This experience has allowed her to understand and teach healthy singing in many styles.
Makaila's warmth, empathy and understanding create a safe space for being vulnerable and brave, taking risks, exploring, and ultimately discovering a world of sounds to sing and make music!
Makaila is a fourth-year student at the University of Victoria, completing a Bachelor of Music and Education.
