“For me, teaching guitar is not simply about imparting skills and information to the student; it is about celebrating the music that excites us and learning from one another”
Born and raised in Victoria, Sam Kiiskila began playing guitar and bass in his early teens. Currently a fourth-year student at the University of Victoria, he looks forward to a potential career as an educator.
Sam’s approach to teaching is learner-based. He seeks to meet students where they are at, build confidence, and achieve goals. It is his strong belief that the journey of learning a musical instrument—even the most challenging aspects—can and should be fun and rewarding. He believes that with the right approach, anyone should be able to pick up a guitar, learn the ropes, and have fun doing it.
In his free time, Sam enjoys reading, running, and discovering new music. His personal tastes centre around early rock and rhythm and blues: rockabilly, jump blues, New Orleans R&B, gospel, and other forms of roots music. Besides music, he is interested in Canadian civics and history, currently working toward a degree in political science.
